Create a logo
If you are not a graphic designer, I personally suggest hiring a professional. There are many do-it-yourself programs and online templates available, but like carpentry or interior design, graphic design is a skilled trade and there are many important details and nuances that a professional will know to consider, that will make your logo stand out and meet your goals.
Regardless of who creates your logo, there are four points you want to consider when choosing a logo:
- Is it simple and easy to recognize?
- Does it align with your core values?
- Does it align with your business and services?
- Are you proud of your logo?
You will also want to create…
- Branded Email Signature
- Voicemail Message
- Business Cards
Consistency is key! As you’re communicating with your network, ensure your branding is visible and consistent when someone contacts you by email or phone.

Consider what your business colors will be. Generally, businesses focus on two to three colors to make up the core of their branding. There is a lot of information online about the psychology of color choice in marketing. Certain colors are associated with different values or emotions. When choosing your colors, consider whether your colors relate to the core business values you have chosen to espouse.
For example, orange is often viewed as an energetic, confident colour. But it’s also the color of caution and is sometimes viewed as an aggressive color. If your core business values are focused on the fact that you are fast-paced, a go-getter, and highly energetic, then it may be the right color for you. If not, you may want to revisit the color wheel to check out what other colors signify.
Next, consider if your colors are easy to see on a light and dark background, and what color your fonts will be. Choose one color that can be easily read when used as a font color. This is also the time to consider how your color choice will resonate with your target tenant or investor. As we discussed when developing a business name, different colors may attract different people.
Your Lease To Own young families may resonate better with calm, welcoming colors. While the trendy downtown condo tenant may resonate better with colors that signify energy or luxury. And finally, you will want to confirm if you can easily make marketing materials with these colors, or will they be considered custom colors that are difficult to replicate.
For example, if you are using a very uncommon shade of chartruse, how likely will it be that you can find business shirts in that color?
